What is Restylane and what are its uses?
Restylane’s main active ingredient is Hyaluronic Acid. This gel form injectable fillers are meant to smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, also provides subtle lip enhancement as well as smoothing lines around lips and can also add lift and volume to cheeks.
Why Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring substance in our skin that provides fullness and elasticity (similar to collagen). As we age, our skin becomes thinner and starts losing fat and elasticity, hence no longer looking plump and full as it did when you were in your 20s.
Factors interfering with the decrease of firmness are:
- Internal: Genetic and Natural Aging
- External: sun exposure/damage, smoking, environmental factors, and even sleep positioning.
How does the Restylane injections work?
The Restylane treatments are done in a medical office and it can take from a few minutes, to 20 minutes depending on the area to be treated and the expertise of the injector.
The area to be treated gets disinfected, and then the Restylane injection gets applied. The Hyaluronic Acid molecules of the injection attract water making the tissue under the lines and wrinkles elevate naturally. The results are almost immediate and you leave the office looking naturally younger.

Does Restylane hurt?
Most patients agree that the injections are almost painless, however the most common comment is redness at the site of injection. A local topical anesthetic can be used before the injection to minimize pain. Inflammation and redness related to Restylane, subside within hours after treatment.
Are there any restrictions after the Restylane treatment?
Patients can go back to their daily activities the same day, but it is advisable that patients avoid heat and sun over exposure to avoid inflammation at the site. It is also advisable that patients don’t do any chemical exfoliations or laser treatments right after the Restylane treatments.
