Are Hair Thickening Products Safe?

Thinning hair is an affliction that many men and women suffer from. Most people who experience thinning hair look for some sort of product that can help their hair to look and feel thicker and fuller. There are numerous products on the market that claim to help with thinning hair and it can be a great challenge for consumers to weed through them and find and determine which products will be effective and safe. In order to ensure that your money is not wasted, you should have some background information about hair thickening products first.

Luckily, most of the hair thickening products out there are safe to use. A common misconception about hair thickening products is that they will change the actual density of your hair. This is not true, since there is not a product that can change the volume of your hair. What hair thickening products do is coat your hair to give it a thicker appearance. Since it is actually a coating on your hair, once you have washed your hair, you will lose the affects from the product. The product will need to be reapplied every time you want results after you have washed your hair.

Hair thickening products come in a variety of different forms, from shampoos/conditioners, to creams, serums, foams and pills. The hair thickening products that will coat your hair will have ingredients such as dimenthicone or hydrolyzed keratin. These ingredients will help your hair to look thicker than it is. Products that contain these two products are safe to use, so you should look for these ingredients when choosing a hair thickening product.

The Association of Dermatology (ADA) has stated that currently, Minoxidil (Rogaine), is the only topical solution that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that is able to regrow hair and slow down the hair loss process. In doing so, Minoxidil is able to enhance the density of the hair that is thinning and make hair that is noticeable thicker. However, this treatment is only beneficial to those who are in the earlier stages of hair loss. Consult with a hair loss expert to determine if this is a good treatment for you.

If you have a lot of areas on your head that are thinning, or if you have bald spots, you are most likely experiencing hair loss. If you are in the beginning stages of hair loss, you are most likely not going to respond to hair thickening products. Hair loss is a progressive condition, so as it continues, you will not respond to hair thickening products. There are hair loss solutions available, but hair thickeners will not be one of them.

The sooner that you seek treatment for your hair loss, the more effective the results will be. If you are losing your hair and it seems to be a greater problem than simply having your hair thin out a little bit, your best bet is to skip using a hair thickening product and go right to consulting a hair loss expert to help you with your hair loss.
