The Bear Hug Program of Bear Necessities

Formerly located in the Chicago suburb of Vernon Hills, the Yates Hair Science Group currently operates out of a new, state-of-the-art facility on North Stetson Avenue just a few blocks north of Millennium Park in downtown Chicago. The dedicated support that the Yates Hair Science Group provides its hair restoration clients is further reflected in the organization’s various charity and community outreach efforts; one of its ongoing philanthropic partnerships is with Bear Necessities.

A national 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Bear Necessities is dedicated to eliminating pediatric cancer through a number of events and initiatives. In addition to funding clinical research, the organization works directly with the victims of pediatric cancer through its Bear Hugs program.

Similar to a wish from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, each Bear Hug brings a customized experience to a child who is living with cancer. Bear Hugs are as unique as the children who receive them. In order to ensure that each child is happy with his or her experience, Bear Necessities works closely with parents and caregivers to ensure that Bear Hugs are both appropriate and successful.

To qualify for a Bear Hug, pediatric cancer patients must be under 20 years of age and receiving treatment through the pediatric oncology department of a major Chicago-area hospital. In some cases, Bear Necessities will also deliver Bear Hugs through Illinois hospitals outside of Chicago and to Illinois patients who are undergoing treatments out of state.
