Two Myths about Hair Transplants

Dr. William Yates of Yates Hair Science Group graduated with a BA from Northwestern University and then received his MD from the six-year honors program at the same school. The Yates Hair Science Group, based in Vernon Hills, Illinois, serves patients who have hair transplant needs.

Consumers have many questions about hair transplant options. Here are two myths about hair transplants that are not true.

One myth is that transplants are most effective in younger men and that this procedure should be performed earlier in life. The truth, however, is that waiting until hair loss has become significant is the best option. If hair transplants are done too soon, it is possible that hair thinning can continue, which may lead to an unnatural look around the transplant area.

Another myth is that transplanted hair requires special care. One of the best things about hair transplant surgery is that once the new hair starts growing, it can be treated just like regular hair. The hair can be cut, colored, and styled as normal. Transplanted hair is no more fragile than the original hair.
