What is Scalp Miropigmentation?

Some may have heard of Scalp Micropigmentation, but not everyone understands what it is. Scalp Micropigmentation is the latest innovative hair loss solution in which you have your scalp tattooed with very small dots that look just like stubble. Scalp Micropigmentation gives the patient the look of having a short or buzz style haircut. This procedure has become increasingly popular among those who suffer from hair loss since it gives you immediate results and does not require having an invasive surgery. Since it is not a surgical procedure, there is no scarring and there is no down time afterwards.

While there are many different ways that people choose to combat hair loss, there are not too many options for those who have gone completely bald. People who are in the earlier stages of hair loss may turn to hair loss products, such as Propecia or Rogaine, or may benefit from having a hair transplant. However, all of those options require that you still have some healthy hair growth, but if you are completely bald, those options will not work.

Scalp Micropigmentation allows for people who have gone completely bald, or those who simply want to experience the benefits of this procedure to have the appearance of having hair and having an actual hairline. Scalp Micropigmentation can also be used to hide any scarring from previous transplant surgeries and can shade in areas on the scalp where hair is thinner.

Many people refer to Scalp Micropigmentation as hair tattoos, but Scalp Micropigmentation does not penetrate into the skin as deeply as a typical tattoo. The color will be matched to your previous hair color and will also be made to complement your skin tone. The ink that is used is also completely different than tattoo ink in that it will retain its color over time: patients who receive this treatment do not have to worry about the color changing or fading throughout the years.

Your hair loss physician will give you a consultation and will work with you to understand what your goals are and will determine a suitable hairline for you, based on what your old hairline looked like and what will look best with the shape of your face. During the procedure, hundreds of tiny dots will be put onto your scalp. The procedure will generally last for about three hours and if you need to have Scalp Micropigmentation on your entire head, you may need to have a few treatments.

An incredible benefit of Scalp Micropigmentation is that it is a permanent solution to your hair loss, but if for any reason you become unhappy with the way it looks, it can be adjusted or even reversed. Also, if you have some hair on your head that goes gray as you get older, the treatment can be touched up to match the change in your hair color.

One of the main questions that people have about Scalp Micropigmentation is if it hurts. The answer to that is that it hurts less than having a normal tattoo and hurts a lot less than having a hair transplant. For the procedure, you have the option of being given an anesthetic to numb your scalp, but there are a lot of patients who do not feel they need it and are able to manage without it.

You should make sure that during your consultation, you ask any questions you may have. It is important to understand all about any sort of procedure that you are having done and your hair loss physician will make sure that you have all of the information necessary to decide if Scalp Micropigmentation is the right hair loss solution for you.
